Glendon M. Crowell Sr., age 89, passed away at his home at Linden Ponds in Hingham on Thursday, October 26, 2017.
Glen was the husband for 52 years to the late Marjorie A. (Henderson) Crowell and is survived by his three children, Glendon M. Crowell Jr. and his wife Christine, of Fayston, VT, Linda Shepherd and her husband Thomas of Abington and Marcia Hoffman and her husband Dennis of Abington. Grandfather of Matthew and Lindsey Crowell of Fayston, VT, Kyle Shepherd of South Boston and Sarah Shepherd of Abington, Kristen Hoffman of San Diego, CA, Cheryl Arruda of Canton and Daniel Hoffman of Scituate. He also leaves his great grandchildren, Rajan Kuruvilla of San Diego, Layla Arruda of Canton, Andre and Amaya Kabongo of Abington.
Glen was born in Milton, spent his early years in Nova Scotia and lived most of his life in Quincy before residing in Linden Ponds in Hingham for the past 13 years. He graduated from Quincy High School. He served his country in the Navy, and is a veteran of World War II. He then earned a degree in Structural Engineering from Northeastern University.
He became a partner in F. Leroy Fox Engineering Company in Braintree and worked many years for Charles T. Main Company in Boston before retiring in 1990.
Glen was a very loving, caring, gregarious man. A few moments with him would brighten your day. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who he was so very proud of and were the light of his life. He will be greatly missed by us all.
Glen was active in his churches, Atlantic Congregational Church in North Quincy, the Union Congregational Church in Wollaston and the Old South Union Congregational Church in South Weymouth. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He bowled with church leagues and most recently with Linden Pond’s Bowling League. Glen loved Boston Sports and did an in-house Sports Talk Show at Linden Ponds.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours for Glendon on Wednesday, November 1 from 10-11 AM in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. A funeral service in honor of Glen’s life will immediately follow the visiting hours in the funeral home at 11 AM. Burial will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Glendon’s memory to the Linden Pond’s Scholarship Fund, Attention Mairi Bleakie, 300 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA 02043.
