Carolyn Phipps (Menino), age 71, of Quincy and formerly of Hyde Park passed away after a long illness with family by her side. Carolyn was born and raised in Hyde Park. She attended Boston College receiving a graduate degree in Education. Carolyn taught elementary school in Boston for several years before getting married and starting a family. Later in life, she went back to school and became a reading specialist through Mass General Hospital's Language Clinic. She loved teaching and helped many adults and children with learning disabilities learn to read. Despite many struggles throughout her life, Carolyn demonstrated an inner strength and spirit that encouraged others to persist when faced with challenges. She had great empathy for others and was a positive role model for those who knew her

Carolyn enjoyed living at the River Bay Club in Quincy. She had many friends and enjoyed playing bingo, scrabble, trivia and many other activities. She also enjoyed cooking and crocheting blankets. She will be remembered for her compassion and independence.

Carolyn is survived by her beloved children Amy Francoeur and her husband Michael of S. Weymouth, Michael Phipps of Quincy, and Caroline Phipps of Braintree, her cherished grandkids Lucas, Tyler, Cecelia, and Sam, her brother David Menino of Hyde Park, her late brother Thomas Menino former Mayor of Boston and his wife Angela.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Carolyn on Wednesday March 1, 2017 from 4-8PM in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home on Thursday at 8:30AM for a Celebration of Life prior to the Funeral Mass in honor of Carolyn which will be held at 9:30AM at St. Francis Xavier Parish located in Weymouth, MA. Donations in memory of Carolyn may be made to the Elder Service Plan of Harbor Health Services at 1135 Morton St. Mattapan, MA 02126.
