Alonzo R. Crawford “Rich”, age 91, of Hingham passed away peacefully on July 4, 2016 which was one of his favorite holidays. Rich was raised and educated here in Weymouth. He left high school early to serve in the Navy during WWII, entering service in the year 1943. After, he served for many years in the Merchant Marines. When he returned home he worked at Quincy Shipyard and eventually got on the Weymouth Fire Dept. where he stayed for 20 years. Rich also worked at many different Glass Companies. He loved cats, painting, was a 50 year mason, and was very active at E. Weymouth Congregational Church but above all else Rich loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his entertaining spirit and fun personality.
Rich is survived by his friend and former wife of 34 years Mary Crawford (Irwin) of Weymouth, beloved father of Paul Crawford of Dartmouth, David Crawford of Weymouth, and Diane Gorton and her husband Robert of Plymouth, beloved grandfather to Nathaniel, Justin, Lauren, Daniel, Briane, and Sophia. Loving great-grandfather to Owen, Brody, Cameron, Kelsey, and Luke. Rich is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service for Rich which will be held at the E. Weymouth Congregational Church located at 1320 Commercial St. Weymouth, MA 02189 on Sunday July 17, 2016 at 4PM. Funeral arrangements for Rich are in the care of C. C.
