Edward O’Leary, age 93, a lifelong resident of Weymouth passed away suddenly at home on March 17, 2016. Ed was born, raised, and educated in Weymouth then entered the Navy in 1942 where he served on the USS Whitman DE24 in the South Pacific. When he returned Ed got a job at the Weymouth DPW where he worked for 39 years. Ed met his wife, Anna, shortly after starting work and they got married at St. Albert the Great Church in Weymouth and started building a family. Ed was a member of Braintree Golf Course for 25 years, enjoyed Navy reunions all over the U.S., gardening, yardwork, all Boston sports especially Red Sox, but most of all loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren of whom he was so proud of.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Anna E. O’Leary (Thurston), his loving children Kathleen O’Leary and her husband Lee Kamentsky of Arlington, Patricia Batte and her husband George of Norwell, Michael O’Leary and his wife Suzanne of Weymouth, and Edward O’Leary and his wife Pamela of Weymouth, and his cherished grandchildren Steven, Robert and his wife Kerri, Daniel, Michael, Patrick, Ryan, Kaitlynn, Terrance, Shannon, and Maegan. Ed is also survived by his sister Jean Duke of FL.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Ed from 4-8PM on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:30AM on Wednesday for a Celebration of Life prior to the Funeral Mass in honor of Ed which will be held at St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth at 9:30AM. Burial will immediately follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Weymouth. Donations in memory of Ed may be made the Weymouth Food Pantry at 1189 Commercial St. Weymouth, MA 02189.
