Herman S. Libbey, 80, of Weymouth, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Feb. 28, 2016. He was born May 1, 1935, the second son of Herbert Libbey Sr. and Teresa (Stanley) Libbey. Herman was born, raised and educated in Mattawamkeag, Maine. After graduating from high school, he spend a short time in Florida with friends. Later he moved to Boston where he joined the Brothers of Mercy as Brother "Rene" Libbey. While in the Brotherhood, he obtained his nursing degree at the Alexian Brothers in Chicago. After 25 years, he moved back to Boston and worked as a registered nurse at Carney Hospital for over 20 years, until retirement in 2007. Throughout Herman's life, he was a very caring and compassionate man to everyone who knew him. He enjoyed cooking, but most importantly, loved spending time with his son Christopher and was a very devoted father. His devotion to his son Christopher, was admired by all and a true example of "fatherhood."

Herman is survived by his cherished son Christopher Libbey of Weymouth; his sister Teresa Clifford and her husband Gerald of Brewer, Maine; brother, Dennis Libbey and his wife Jayne of Bangor, Maine; sister-in-law Mary Libbey of Molunkus, Maine and many nieces and nephews. Herman was pre-deceased by his parents, his siblings Kenneth Libbey Sr., Herbert Libbey Jr. and his wife Marlene and ex-wife Jane (McLeod) Libbey.

Our family would like to extend a grateful thank you to all of the staff at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass. and especially to Dr. Kevin McBride for his outstanding care and compassion provided for Herman during this most difficult time.

A private interment will be at Mattawamkeag Cemetery in Mattawamkeag, Maine. If you would like to leave a message for the family please click on the candle.
